A little over a week ago one of our authors wrote a wonderful article about college freshmen and gave some quality advice to the same in regards to dealing with and getting the most out of their first year of “school out of high school.” In this article, one of her pieces of advice was, “Don’t take your advisor’s word for it!” I’ve thought of this a great deal, not since she wrote the article, but ever since I’ve become a student at ASU and had to go through countless academic advising sessions with these so called “advisors.” In my mind, the only advisement I’ve generated from these meetings is my own advisment not to be advised by these people…Read More

There’s a lot to keep track of as a freshmen at ASU. Coming straight out of high school and into a whole new world of dorm life, registering for classes, using your own free will to choose whether or not to even go to class, dealing with late nights and long lectures, and, of course, going crazy over college sports, it sometimes can be just a little overwhelming. Thankfully, one of our senior writers, a recent ASU graduate, is offering her top five bits of advice for incoming freshmen… Read more

It’s done! It’s over, but yet the real challenge begins. As a recent graduate from a class in 2008 it’s time to prepare for the real world. Knowing that I will be attending a fall semester at ASU studying Material Science has began to renew my excitement in going back to school and learning, or so it seemed. As registration began I Found out that I had to take a Calculus placement test and score 60% or higher to pass. Having to take such a test brought back memories of recent highschool calculus classes… Read more

“NO cheer squad next year at ANY football, basketball or other sporting event games. The only form of “cheer squad” that will remain is the megaphones and signs. Which will not be called the cheerleaders, but instead “Sparky’s Crew.”
This a statement by ASU’s athletic director, Lisa Love, back in the first part of May 2008. The ASU cheer squad has been cut from the athletic program and will not return this coming school year… Read More

Universities should get with the times

Every time I write a tuition check, buy books, wait in line for books, sit through a boring lecture or pull an all nighter on a stupid homework assignment, I’m forced to ask myself why I even do it. Let me get one thing straight: I LOVE LEARNING, which is exactly why I have such a problem with schools who (1) don’t tailor to my learning style or (2) don’t teach me much of value (considering what I’m paying) to my future… Read More

I scream, you scream, we all scream for cheaper gasoline. Under the glare of public desire the presidential hopefuls start reeling out their plans for cheaper gasoline. ASU and Politics - Obama Vs McCain
July 5th, 2008 · 1 Comment · politics
The inspiration for this post comes from a story my friend Mike told me back in 2004. During the intense months of the Bush – Kerry show down. He was in his arts class. The teacher wanted to spice up the class and asked the students to stand up for who they would be voting for. Mike explained the scene to me somewhat in these words. ‘Of those that stood up pledging to vote for Kerry the thing I noticed was their manner of appearance. Goths, people with tattoos and piercings, rebels, outsiders, and others that promoted themselves by dressing in defiance to others. When Bush was announced, those that stood were mostly guys in long-sleeve button up shirts, nice jeans, and girls wearing nothing too outlandish. One group, looked like professionals, the other, lost.’…Read More

How dee “Dew” ASU? Boy (or girl) have I got something to tell you. Wouldn’t you know it, while the public mind has been giving so much focus and attention to politics, democratic vs. republican debates, and who’s policy is better than who’s, there has been an even bigger question up for debate in the world…it’s simply, “Which Dew do we Dew?”…Read More
